Default Wide five Id US/UK/France/Germany

Hello, I'm trying to identify the origin of a pair of front- drums
From what I was told they came off of a '36 Matford V8-72, part number should be 68-1105-A2 just like the US '36 Ford. But they're stamped 68-1126-B

They have the star reinforcement like UK Ford Pilot

But have the ribs and part number starting with 68 like any'36

Juice backing plates fits, they have the same dimensions as '37/'39 drums and not like '36 drums

They use 1.5" shoes.

I don't find this part number in my Matford part catalog and it's nowhere in Ford's green book.

Does anybody has any idea?

Also what color were wide five drums and wheel painted?

1105 is the hub and drum and I think 1126 is just the drum.

Don't juice brakes use 1.75" brakes? The braking surface ought to be around 2" to use a 1.75" shoe.

So if 68-1126 is just the drum for 1936, that would mean that somebody put them on a later hubs, maybe even the factory from 1937 to finish an old stock.
I doubt that someone would go to the trouble of replacing just the drum, was it even available separately? Plus in Europe people didn't drive much at the time and even less between '39 and '45 if you add the fact that the Matford plant was bombed in '44 at the demand of Mathis himself, I don't think many spare parts were available for older models after the war.

You're right I typed wrong.
But those drums are mechanical brakes and if I'm not mistaken it's 1-3/4 from 1935.

I started blasting the second drum and there's no number on it plus the shape where the number is stamped on the first one is more square on the second one.

Hello Sheldon, you don't see any pictures? Because I posted 6 and here's one more.
Today I blasted the interior of the drums and found another number :
78-1106-C1

Again a weird number, in the Matford book they list a 78-1105-C1 that is a finned replacement for the '36 and up rear drum.
Unfortunately my Matford parts book is '32 to '38 models only, I've never seen a later edition which is not a surprise because of the war.
After the war Matford didn't come back, Ford resumed production of the modified pre war matford model but with hydraulic brakes, I've never seen a parts catalog for this model.
So my drum could be a later '39 or '46-'47 but I can't check any part number for these years. But that wouldn't make sense because the guy I got the drums from had 2 sets, one from a '36 Matford and one from a recently imported '37 Ford pickup.
And this was the bearings I removed:

Clearly marked MatFord.

I think you'll find that 68-1105-A2 is the number of the assembly which includes the hub, drum, studs, and probably the bearing races. The hub is 1106 and drum is 1126.

HHR&R.My error.Your pics did come thru. Sorry. Since I have been in France I have not run across many MatFord's although I have seen a few parts at the "Bourse" meets.I do havea friend in St Herblain near Rennes that has a very nice 1937 tudor. He might have more knowledge and or documents.

That would make sense, what does not is the mix of '36 drum with later hub.
One thing I didn't mention is that I have the rear end from that same donor car and it's stamped 72 as in V8-72 which is '36.
And the guy who parted out the Matford clearly stated it was a '36 V8-72 because he had a '37 he beautifully restored and bought the junked one for parts, those were left over and he was cleaning up the shack and no he didn't swap his front axle.
I understand that the junked '36 could have end up in it's life with a '37 front axle, but the drums should be smooth, not finned and not stamped 68.
So unless Matford decided for unknown reasons toward the end of production of the'36 to mix and match parts for the upcoming '37 line, I really can't understand what's going on here.

Anyway I start to realize that I'm overthinking that thing.

Sheldon, not far from where I live I know of a '47 Ford F472, the guy took the engine out maybe 20 years ago and he's still working on that engine from time to time.

There are not many in France that know the Early V8 Fords as I have found out. I mainly specialize in 32-35 French and other Euro Ford's and still learning.
