My deck lid comes loose while driving. Have the nut on the handle tight as I think it should. Handle moves easily. So does the nuts torque dictate the handle staying in closed position? These are real 32 parts. Thanks

There is a washer with a tab. Folding the tab once the nut is tightened prevents the nut from loosening. Some Vendors have those as Model A is the same.

David,
I "knew" that Model A used the acorn nut and the lock washer was used at least through 1937. Was the acorn nut used through 1937 also, if not when did the transition occur? Thanks |

The acorn nut David was referring to. See the locking washer and its tab?

Karl,
I don't know if the acorn nuts were used after the '34s as the body parts and hardware catalogues do not provide specific applications of the nuts. My view is based the twenty plus cabriolets, coupes, and roadsters that I have owned over the years plus other '32-'34s observed. |

Didn’t have the washer with the tab. Had to settle for a nyloc nut and washer

Are there two different length square shanks on the handles?
Is the longer one pictured above rumble seat? I have a trunk car and my original handle has a very short shank compared to the example above |

Yes the rumble handle shank is longer than the trunk handle. Here again is the trunk handle. The nut is incorrect.

Except on a '32 deluxe coupe and '33 - '34 handles where the one with the longer shank was used for deck lids as well.

And the latches differ reflecting the handle shank length differences.

My recent experience with the lipped rubber pad from Carpenter is that they are too small and do not fit over the stainless washer above the exposed shank of the handle. The un-lipped rubber washer from Snyder's is no better as the inside i.d. is too large to keep the rubber washer centered.
