Some of you may know from my previous posts, I'm a cam nut. Not sure why camshafts fascinate me so much, but they do. I'm also slowly working towards designing my own cam, but that's a thread for another day.
I took a chance on this freshly ground cam on Ebay and I got it for a great price. It was ground on a super nice core. What intrigued me was that that the exhaust & intake timing events seem to be similar to a Merc. cam, but this grind has much more duration and lift than the Merc. Here are the specs at .050" Intake opens: 10 degrees Intake closes: 50 degrees Exhaust closes: 10 degrees Exhaust opens: 50 degrees Duration is 240 degrees @ .050" Lift is .380" I & E 110 degrees lobe separation. 20 degrees of overlap Putting the specs into the Tilden Technology cam lobe data spreadsheet, it seems like it should be a fast action cam. Curious on your thoughts. Last edited by Tim Ayers; 05-14-2025 at 08:46 AM. |

Are you sure that the 240 degrees of duration is at .050 lift? That seems pretty stout.

Although the 10/50 50/10 valve events mimic the 8CM cam, the 8CM is at advertised opening rather than at .050". I wonder what the advertised specs are for this one....can't have both advertised and .050 specs the same. This cam may have fast or slow ramps depending on those specs....
240 at .050 is a pretty hot cam, as Fritz said above. Hmmmm....

That's just a frog hair beneath the 400jr... wish I was your neighbor. Sick of hearing 2 stroke 4 wheelers in this town!

Please post a pic. I would like to see what the ramps look like.

I made up this cam wheel a few years back. The jpg of my spreadsheet lists the data used.

Here is the timing card and pictures of the lobes.
I spoke to the grinder this AM, here is what he said: That grind is a moderate street performance grind that will have a little bit of a rough "lopey" idle. It's a very popular grind. Makes sense given the somewhat similar timing events to the Merc cam. Last edited by Tim Ayers; 05-14-2025 at 12:00 PM. |

Tiltech 8cm plus? With more lift?
The 240 may be advertised, and not @ .050? |

Card says 240 @ .050". I guess you don't really know until you spec it out with a degree wheel. I'd hope the timing card is accurate. |
