Default Short trip away in the 33

Like I said on the other post, I’m away for a few days in the 33,
To an old gold mining town(Crackow).
248 miles from home on mainly back country roads.
33 going great , and even better this arvo,
I noticed the engine gets a bit harsh when on the gas from about 40 mph up, but it gets a bit better when the eng gets nice and up to temp.
So this arvo while burning along at 45 -50 on a really nice country road,I had a play with the throttle pedal, and got my brain thinking,so I stopped and adjusted the vac brake, which is set most the way out, I turned it in two turns ,
Well what a difference, engine is way smoother and a lot nice when pulling on hills,it made the last miles a real pleasure
It must be making plenty of power,as it got up the kalpower range the other day in 2nd gear, this is a BIG long hill, but had my foot nailed to the floor in 2nd.
Lots of folks say the vac brake is not critical with modern fuels, but my experience is it is very important,
The lowest fuel we have here is 91 oct .
There is a lot of green grass out here due to the big rains from the last month, hence there is plenty of feed for the kangaroos,so they don’t have to get it from the roadside, and hence getting hit.
Some picks from the last few days
The army blitz is still used on the farm,
The plane is impounded,as it was used to fly a load of drugs in from Asia earlier in the year,it landed at this strip which is way out in the sticks,it only had the pilots seat in ,cops were waiting for it.
The murals are on the side of the buildings in the small township of Monto,
I stopped here for a few nights just to relax.

Im back home today after 450 miles,
I stopped the other day to catch up with an old mate who is in a nursing home, had a lovely chat and gave hime 1/2 doz or so V8 times mags to read, he still has a pile of old ford stuff on his farm but will not be able to get back to it, that is where I got the 3.78 gearset from that is in my 33 diff a few years back.
he has ww2 army trucks and stuff as well.
my 33 has been going well after the small timing adjustment.
fuel usage has been around 19 liters/100 ks, which is not too bad as there was a lot of big hill needing 2nd gear.
Found some more old ford rust out in the sticks .
not much useable stuff onnthe 46/8 though,I was going to get a closer look but there was a big noisy dog there.
I also gave a couple of v8 times and a book I had bought at the used book shop in Monto for $2 to a young lady camped by herself at a rest area where I stopped to make my lunch,(bacon and egg sandwich),and who was just heading north ,she told me, she thanked me and said it would be nice to read at night, she was traveling in a small suv full of all her stuff.
My 33 needs a wash after dirt roads and tracks but thats all.

Yes, thanks Lawrie for taking us along. Glad the 33 is up to the task. Wonder if that Twin Bonanza was stolen, besides carying drugs. Not a cheap plane.
