Default 34 rumble seat gasket seal installation

I need some help on how to correctly install the u-shaped rumble seat gasket. I've seen conflicting pictures in different places. The picture that makes the most sense to me is that the flat part of the u-shaped gasket is glued to the rumble seat lid, and when it is closed the u-shape fits over the body flange. Anybody know the right way to do it? Thanks!

Looks like the instructions say to put the glue on the two parallel flats and press them up into the groove. Then the rounded part of the bulb will touch the upright edge of the gutter.
