Hi all, my car has the side view mirrors mounted on the door frame, just below the drip mouldings. I did not mount them here.
Problem is, they are maxed out for adjustment. My thought is they worked for my shorter father. They use one small hole (approx5/16) to mount. I would be open the goose neck mounted on hinge, but going this route would require body work to fill the holes. Can anyone make recommendations for a mirror that might work? Thanks in advance. |

Look at the "swan neck" style mirrors. There are different types that may stick out further from the body. They mount with two holes so you will have to drill one extra hole with the existing hole. Lots of different ones on e-Bay.

On my '51, I have a mirror that clamps on permanently (I know that sounds odd) over the upper front of the door. It has longer, straighter stem than the one you show and works great in my situation. You could mount it where it covers the old mounting hole, but I think that may not position it properly on you '39.

Peep mirror.
Looking at the arm, it would be better if it was mounted to the top of the door frame as it curves down. Most peep mirrors don't mount into the door, they have small screws that tighten against the door edge. You will need to re-mount the mirror to the opposite side of the arm then. |

I'm attaching a pic of the mirror mounting on my '38 deluxe. I bought 4" stick on mirrors with a very slight convex and attached them to the peep mirror. This gives much better field of vision with minimal distortion. |

Are you trying to move the mirror out, away from the car? If so and if the arm is stainless steel, you could remove all other parts from the arm, then heat to dull red and twist and bend it. After your done, polish it. Loosen up the mirror stud and figure what the best position is, then use that to figure how much to twist or bend the arm.
I did this on my '32 right side because all the available mirrors have a straight arm and were useless. Perfect now.
