Default ‘34 column drop repair

I told them not to touch it! (the key, that is…). Just do the toggle switch, Up/Down…

A newer staff member at the shop where I take my ‘34 broke it, currently it is like this:

* key goes goes in and out, and can’t turn the cylinder
* the On/Off toggle switch is working, up and down, so I can start the car and drive it at least

Any advice on the repairs would be helpful, I am pretty sure I have a full restored unit in my stuff somewhere.

Taking to Mike Hubbard place tomorrow to assist me…thanks Barners

When the key is in the off position the notches of the key are on the top. The key will slide in and out but the lever will not switch up and down. The steering wheel will be locked. When the key is turned 1/2 turn counter clockwise the key will not be removable. The lever will be movable to the on position and the steering wheel will be free to turn. Is your key cylinder in the correct position or is it upside down? Did he have the switch on the back of the drop off and did he get it together correctly?

Thanks 34fordy, yes I’m familiar with how it should be, as it is on my other ‘34s, and was on this one. The shop is denying all…

It is currently stuck with the key hole at the top, (12 o’clock) and the key going in and out freely “‘upside down”. .. teeth on the bottom…

I guess that means someone put the key cylinder in upside down. Remove it and turn it "right side up", and hope when they tightened or drove in the locking pin they did not ruin the key cylinder plugs.
