What is the diameter of the opening that fits over the carb on a stock 53 4bbl air cleaner? Thanks. Reply to [email protected] please.

I believe the stock 4bbl option was a Holley 2140.

The 4 bbl was first used on the Mercury's, on the 54' "Y" block.

In '53 Mercury used a 1901 Holley 2 barrel teapot with a 5 1/8" neck. In '54 Mercury used a 2140 4 barrel teapot also with a 5 1/8"neck. Sal Last edited by scicala; 01-12-2025 at 12:45 PM. |

If the O/P is actually referring to a 4 BBL on a '53 Mercury, it has to be an aftermarket setup. The old 4 BBL manifolds took the old "square" pattern carburetors. These were made by Holley, Carter, Rochester, and even Stromberg. I just measured a small-base 4G and it is 4 1/8". I have a Stromberg "Aeroquad" I can measure later if anyone cares.
