Installing sbc into my 40 the flathead is done. And it's only because I have one just sitting. Have a wilcap adapter and wondering what pilot bearing to use?

I'd suggest you go to the HAMB Forum for a proper response. I'm certain these guys have done this a thousand times.

Sbc is 55 265. Using that flywheel with new 40 ford clutch disc.

Fordbarners are allowing too much hot rodding lately. I mean we can all appreciate a hopped up flatty, and maybe even putting juice Lincoln brakes on a 32. But giving advice on installing a SBC is too much for the Barn.

I agree , no offence to the poster, we all have our own ideas for our cars but this is street rod combination not a ford product. Tim

when it cost 5_8 thousand to have a flathead rebuilt what choice do you have. you can put a sbc in with very little mod. & when you sell the car put the tired flathead back in. ps they can sit in traffic and not over heat.if you drive your a lot its a good choice.if you just have a show car thats different if you can afford it stay with the flat head for a daley driver

Yep. Easy in. Easy out. Mine took the same Timken part as the refreshed 21-studder that's back in there now. ![]() |

Ohh, at one time I considered seting our shoebox on an S-10 pickup frame. Pretty easily done. An LS powerplant, 5 or 6 speed electronic transmission and the Monte Carlo SS suspension/brake package bolts right up. Add to that the aftermarket industry for that frame and the car would have been a great ride
HOWEVER, my wife and friends suggested I would be suffering a gender reassignment if I did so. I took them at their word |

I don’t care how easy or cheap it is to do. I don’t care if you could switch it in a half hour. That’s not what the Fordbarn is about. You might as well be talking about putting 20” aluminum rimz and radials on the car too, because they can be bought at the local tire store. It’s not right.
Truth be told I am a hot rodder, but I’m not going to be discussing SBC’s on the Fordbarn. This is sacred ground. |

The subtitle of this forum is "Long live the flathead Ford". A stove-bolt sbC is totally inconsistent with those words.

Check with who ever sells wilcap stuff and see if they offer the correct size bushing, just a thought!

That ‘40 has a ‘41 pickup front crossmember and spring to clear the Ford oil pump bump.
Fits like a glove. |

A lot of truth to Richard's statement, but I understand others wanting to keep the topics on Fordbarn as it was originally intended. |

Then he already knows that nothing fits an early Ford better than a flathead except an SBC. ![]() |
