David, even though I don't have a '32, I always enjoy your informative posts. Thanks for the pictures of your beautiful projects.
I do have one question, do you do all your own painting? The finishes are magnificent for a "low priced" car of that era. |

Zeke3,
I stopped doing my own painting when the paints became nasty, health wise (a long time ago). I am incredibly fortunate to have two good friends who are masters of metal work and painting and what shows in the photos are the results of their outstanding efforts on my behalf. |

Thanks for your reply to my question about the license lamp lens. I have your two 32 books so knew about the tail lamp housings. That red lens is a great way to get around it & use a original tail lamp. I just have to try & find one now. Phil. |

Just my warmest congratulations! Saw it in 2018 almost done and filled my camera with photos of as many details as you could imagine. You are my 32 professor! My wife was with me so I concentrated to not fall asleep laying on my back under this beautiful Roadster. Think of the wonderful dreams I would have had.

Phil,
Original aftermarket red license lens are scarce, but you can make one by using the special translucent red paint available to restore modern tail lamps to their original color. It comes in a small aerosol can and used on the inside of an original clear lens it looks exactly like the originals. It should also hold up well by being on the inside of the lens. |

What’s the story about it almost becoming a hot rod? I’ve known a couple old hot rods being restored later. And even a semi-famous hot rod being later restored, then “restored” back to the hot it was first done as.

I've rescued a couple of '32s on their way to becoming hot rods, but this standard roadster is not one of those.

Have you ever restored one that was previously hot rodded?

I find it interesting to revisit this thread. My brother has a 32 standard V8 coupe that was black from the factory. I don't remember seeing a black standard coupe or roadster with the correct pin striping before, the gold has worn off all the original cars I have seen. The linear feet of gold pin striping is more striking than I had anticipated, particularly around the trunk. Maybe we should paint the coupe in the two-tone green combination with silver pin striping that was offered.
