Help with Chassis number 1936

Hi from down under..

I finally , while renewing the carpet in the front and tidying up front floor panels
had a look at the chassis / body number stamped on the transmission cover.

I came up with *C18VF11* not sure but the C is for Canadian , car is from NZ , 18 the model ? it is a deluxe 4 door Sedan 1936 , think the F is right hand drive and not sure on V or the 11.

I will look on the rails at the front but they are painted gloss black and nothing visible , before I remove the paint would a right hand drive chassis number still be on the left rail or the right rail ?

While I have the transmission cover removed is there anything I should check , lubricate or renew before I close it up ?

The C is for Canadian (Ford New Zealand, like Ford Australia, at the time were subsidiaries of Ford of Canada which was the manufacturing source of your vehicle), the 18 was the prefix of all Ford V8 engine numbers prior to WWII, the V was prefix of a group of 5 to 10 thousand engine/transmission assemblies, the F designation was for RHD, and the 11 indicated that your car's original engine was the eleventh in that group of 5 or 10 thousand.
The only difference between your number and that of a '36 sold in Canada would be the absence of the F and a number other than 11 at the end.

That engine number should be on the left frame rail regardless of being RHD, but some exceptions do exist, particularly on some vehicles sold by Ford South Africa, another Ford of Canada subsidiary.

The number on the transmission is a chassis number it could match the frame number, it is not a body No. If your car has a tag on the firewall that tag may have a body number stamped on it.

DavidG has given you the benefit of his vast knowledge, to which I might expand on just a bit:
Before you remove paint to expose the number, be aware that the stamped number may be faint and will require great care to avoid obliterating it entirely.
While the floorboards are up, check the number of the transmission turtle for future reference, and grease the universal joint zerk if it's turned inconveniently upwards.
Check the clutch/brake cross-shaft bushings and condition of the clevises, and service the brake switch.
You might also consider what battery you will use and address the battery tray issue now.

G'Day Voycey,
I have just looked at the chassis number on my 35 Roadster and it is next to the steering box.
