Barner's,
I am wondering what is the most practical way to replace the throw out bearing on the slider. Transmission is out, so access is not the question. I understand these are "press fit," so the question is how do you remove the old one and install the new one? Hydraulic press for install perhaps, but removal? Thanks |

Press off the old one, press on the new one. Take extra care and use the right equipment for a successful swap.
Better yet, take it to a repair shop or machine shop that has the experience with the procedure and have them do it. |

I used a three arm puller to grab the OD of the bearing and a disk from my bearing seat set to push on the hub casting at the ID of the bearing and the bearing came right off. I would not reuse a bearing loaded that way so if you are putting in a new one it is a non issue. To put the bearing on I used two more disks from the bearing seat set and a 1/2-20 x 5” long bolt. The bearing started on the housing by hand and the hardware, tightened slowly, worked well. A press is another option but you still have to support the parts to make the bearing move without damaging things.
I hope this helps. |
