Default 1940 Ford jack

In a 1940 Ford how was the jack secured to prevent it from rattling?

It was placed in a burlap bag which was subsequently placed within the tool compartment of the trunk.
The bag was approximately 19 1/2" x 15".
The sack with the Ford script didn't show up until around February, 1940.
