My parents are going to downsize and I will be bringing my father's '32 Tudor sedan to my house to get it back up and running for him. Problem is, for as long as I can remember, he's had either an open box or some type of holder for moth balls inside the car with the windows rolled up.
The car is a beautiful black car that is straight as an arrow. Problem is, the moth ball smell is completely overwhelming. I'm assuming the car has a Lebaron Bonney interior since he restored it back in the early '70's and the interior is correct and looks great albeit it reeks. Does anyone know of a way to get rid of that moth ball smell that has permeated the vehicle? My wife doesn't want the car here for fear it will stink up the house and all of my clothes. |

I would use a fan with an active charcoal filter and good old fresh outdoor air. I think it will greatly disperse. Theres got to be a few products, devices to help with odors but I would guess something that moves the air and allows it to pass through a filtration system designed for odor elimination or reduction.

You could burn some ground coffee in there.

An open box of baking soda will take the odors out of a frig so should work on the moth ball smell. I have used coffee grounds for moldy carpet. Good luck.

Time, ventilation, and a couple of pie tins half full of fresh ground coffee, each with an apple with a bunch of cloves stuck in it. It worked for me in a Corvette that the mice had "visited" over the winter.
It took a couple of years to work, though. I have to believe that the mothballs will be a little easier to tackle. |

Remove Mothball Smell from Closets and Rooms The odor can be particularly stubborn in rooms or closets where mothballed clothes have been stored. To remove these odors, leave out bowls of vinegar or plates of activated charcoal in the affected areas. (Activated charcoal is sold in various pellet sizes and is usually available at pet stores.) You can also try placing containers of coffee grounds or odor-absorbing candles for similar results. Whichever material you choose, place it in the areas with the heaviest smells, and change it often until the smell is gone. |

I expect that an ozone generator would do the job. Just remember it kills the three P’s; plants, pets and people. I use one in my rental houses between tenants and it really works great at removing odors of any kind

I doubt you'll find any trace of any bugs, mice etc. because of the moth balls. The smell will go away in time, leaving a damage free interior.

Yeah, just "tip the can" (Nitromethane) a bit and you'll be legit!

Carpet deodorizers are made with baking soda, apply, let sit, and vacuum.
Visit your local fire station to see what they use to neutralize the post fire smoke odor in a room. An aerosol spray was once used, i think it was ozumn or something like it. T.

Yeah, that will do it. Might be a bit uncomfortable driving in the hot weather :-) Also, X2 on an ozone generator. Glenn

I had mice in my F150 air condition ducts. Had the ducts behind dash cleaned but the smell remained . Awful right in your face.
Used this product according to directions and smell was gone overnight. https://www.amazon.com/Auto-Shocker-.../dp/B001H8VLFC John

X3 on ozone generator. I had a car the mice had been in, and it reeked so bad couldn't even get in it. Sent it on a trailer to a car dealer that had one. Came back with 0 odor and it never returned.
