I know everyone hates a "what is worth" posting that has virtually no information but I am trying to assist someone with an estate sale.
This 1936 Cab has paint and top that are said to look in excellent condition with minimal degradation, if any, from the original restoration. No idea on the interior or condition of the motor or level of the older restoration but it appears to have been well done probably 30 or more years ago. It does not have a rumble seat and has a spare tire mount bracket. No idea yet if it has the original motor but it does have a title. Going thru the fuel and braking systems is obvious but maybe there is not too much additional work. Assuming this is a minor restoration project, what is a reasonable expectation of value in the current market ? Someone had originally provided the estate a "top of the market AACA" restoration ballpark and I hope to set more realistic expectations. I am not the owner or buyer and currently only have a picture from many years ago from shortly after their acquisition. thoughts ? |

Search the regular cabriolet body style for sold prices. Deduct about 20% (minimal) for the club model in the same condition.

Note that it is evidently a club cabriolet with an enclosed rear seat, no rumble seat. Far fewer of those were built originally compared to cabriolets with rumble seats.

Painted grille. Doubtful that is an original correct color.

Do you know what the "top of the market AACA" restoration ballpark actually was?
If they received this ballpark value 2-5 years ago, they are going to be sadly disappointed when they get a reality check on the car's current worth. No idea on the interior or condition of the motor or level of the older restoration but it appears to have been well done probably 30 or more years ago. It does not have a rumble seat and has a spare tire mount bracket. No idea yet if it has the original motor but it does have a title. As others have mentioned, this sounds like a project car. A lot really depends on how it looks in person. |

Thanks for everyone's feedback.
I suspect they may used the NADA values or maybe the owner had an insurance valuation from several years . @Kube, I will probably just print this page and provide an adjustment to go thru the mechanicals. I hope to get some pictures in the near future of the motor and interior but that may not happen. NADA low retail looks like it might be in the ballpark for non op but well preserved condition. |

@Tim
Just to be clear I have no interest in a Club Cabriolet. I have been told this was a running and driving car in the owners collection but has been stored an unknown number of years. I agree that low retail may still be too high. If I get additional details or pictures I will update the thread. thanks |

I bought one of these out of a junk yard in Ct. back in 53/54 for 50$ ought ab8ba engine for 40$ put the hole thing to gether and drove it ti Wisc, Unfortunaly, it only made it to Indiana,stopped at another gas station junk yard and offered the car to the owner for a bus ticket to wisc. He put me to work and his wife fed me good Had a place to sleep in the yard. When I woke up he had the car ready for the trip to wisc, He knew I was in the Navy, so was he in WWII filled the tank with gasgave me 20 bucks and sent me on my way. Car ran fine. Now why couldn't anyone else fix it??? They thought it was a blown head gasket, But at night I could drive it 30/40 MPH and it didn't over heat much unless I got it running faster, and it didn;t have much power either. you can think about it for a while,

Kube, That's a great story. Those were good days when folks really helped each other out and patriotism was a virtue. (Just my opinion.) I also found WI folks to be good people. In 1971 ran out of gas with my 40 during winter on the interstate from Menomonie to Minneapolis. Walked to a farmers home in the snow and he gave me a can of gas to get going.
Not so much today, sadly. |
