The rebuilt transmission in my 1932 Coupe shifts nicely when driving the car. However, sometimes it is difficult to shift out of gear into neutral when the car is on a slight hill and I have come to a stop. I have to gently let out the clutch and "lurch" the car slightly to unload the drive train to get the transmission into neutral. I have taken the top off of the transmission and with the car sitting in the garage, you can slide each gear very easily with your fingers. It is a nuisance. What is causing this problem? Thanks, Ed

Is this a '32 type trans with straight cut teeth or a later with a helical tooth cut? The straight could be harder to shift when "loaded" by the drive line.

What weight oil/lube are you running in the tranny??

I am using heavy gear oil, 600W. The gears are helical. What transmission oil would you recommend? Ed

140 OR 85-140 . Helical gears mean 36-up gears . I use 140 in steering,tranny,u-joint & rear end . The tar you are currently using for lube is probably your trouble . David J

Ed,
What Dave says. Any good grade 85-140 weight will
probably remedy the jam.

Thank you for the recommendation on using the lighter oil. I will give it a try. Ed
