My '37 started popping every now and then as I roll down the road. When I shut the rig down, sometimes she'll make a big POP with a wee bit of fire under the truck. Figure I'm running lean somehow. Did the ol' carb cleaner check around the carb. The only point of concern was a small point on the top gasket of the one barrel Carter carb. I changed out the hose from the dizzy to the carb. I need to change the gasket on the Carter glass-bowl filter and fix the wee leak where the fuel line enters the tank. All the plugs are showing lean too. There is a lot of bubblige taking place in the glass filter bowl, but it's not boiling. Ideas?

A couple of items. You are running a fuel pump with a glass bowl. That is not correct for 1937 but won't hurt. You will need to make sure that you are using a good gasket on the glass sediment bowl. A dried out gasket will suck air. Also, make sure your fuel line connections are all tight and not leaking.
Do you have a cast iron intake or valve chamber cover, or do you have an aluminum as a 1937 Ford would have? The aluminum cover's are known to crack and create a vacuum leak. Also, why do you have a hose from the distributor to the carburetor? Why also are you running a carter carburetor? Can you tell us if you have a Ford, 221 cubic inch, 21 stud flathead engine of the 85 hp variety? |

My mistake amigo! I thought I was on the Dodge forum! Ugh! It's a '37 Dodge one ton with a flathead six 242. If anyone knows Dodges, I'm all ears. I do have a '34 Ford with the 8BA. I've posted about it before. I'm almost ready to get her going again.

That makes sense now. No problem. Is there a pre-war Dodge forum equivalent to the Fordbarn?
