My coupe didn't have the lower step pad for getting into the rumble seat. Ordered one and it fits on the chrome part of the bumper. Is this where it should mount or back on the bumper brace? It doesn't fit the brace because the brace is too wide for the bracket. Also the round step looks to be easily broken if stepped on crooked so I made a support that fits inside the bottom of the step to give more support.

I have one that mounts to the rear bumper bracket. It is very sturdy and easily support over 225 lbs. I can't send a pic because I'm not with the car.

Here is one you can see on the back of my 31 coupe. It's on the bumper bracket, not the bumper. The other pic is of it off of the car. The mounting bolts look to be 2 1/2" apart. Also very sturdy as Oldgears said

On my 28 roadster it is on the bumper bracket and the top of the fender and they are square off it.

This is where you want the step mounted.
