I can tell you that the grilles are tougher than you think.
The pictures show a 1936 Ford pickup grille that I own and I started working on it and my body shop guy told me to HIT IT. And as you can see, after he HIT IT it the damage came out. |

I'm not sure if this will help. my 34 grill had some vertical bars that were bent bad. I had a spare seat frame and used some pieces from it to braize into the grill, they were a perfect fit. Ken

Just turning one over on a piece of carpet and standing on the bars works quite well to get the project going. Then a little tweaking.
