I went through this over 10 years ago and just can't remember. In a 6 cylinder car the radiator mounts ahead of the core support. In a V8 the rad mounts behind the support. Are there 2 different supports or (dare I say) like in a 55 chev, the radiator simply mounts in the front or back position? Thanks!

I looked in my restorer’s guide but didnt see anything. Maybe the shop manual… You might try calling Chris at Shoebox central. Ken

Lee at Brassworks would know. I know they are super busy but when I ordered the radiator for my '39 p/u he spent a lot of time on the phone and by email to insure everything was correct. Nice guy on the phone and in person as well when I picked it up.

Thanks for the response, I know the radiators mount in different positions, what I don't remember is if a different core support is needed, I am checking my service manual as I type this. Thank you.

The stamped u shaped core support is the same regardless of engine, 8A-16139. The sheet metal air deflector above the radiator is different, 8HA-8327 for the 6 cylinder.

The book is 1949 50 51 Ford book, a restorer’s guide, published by the early Ford v8 club

JHFORD51,
THANK YOU, ........ that's what I had thought/hoped. I did just acquire an nos V8 air deflector. Ken Henry thanks, will have to add that book to the library.

The IPB also lists different front portions of the inner fenders (where the air inlets are for the interior heating and ventilation). I don't know for sure, but I guess for battery box installation. These are 8HA-16043 and 8HA-16055. Once had a 6 cyl car that had been retrofitted with a V8 and it fit fine; they never even changed the grille bullet so I know they didn't change the inner fenders!
This would be a good question with pictorial differences for the EFV8 49-51 advisor. |

The 6 cylinder passenger side inner fender has a removable panel to allow access for servicing the valves.
