The Ford Barn

Like the 29Fordguy's story, I have a little family story about the my old 29.

The story starts back in the mid to late 1930's when my cousin Bob was the driver of a 1929 CCPU. He used it to pickup wasted food that was thrown away be a hospital in The Dalles, OR. He then navigated down a steep grade (he said with no brakes) to take the food to his father's pigs.

This old pickup had been parked at my cousin's place and was all torn apart. In the 1950's I received the pieces of the old rig. I succeeded in putting them together so that it ran, then cut the pickup body up, took off the fenders and other parts to make a "rod" for those days. Thus it was not a pickup anymore but a cut up Model A.

I then kept what was left of the old Model A (not much) for all these years and a couple years ago I decided I had to either get rid of the junk in my barn or rebuild the old Model A. So with no body for the chassis, I then found a wooden Huckster to put on it and rebuilt the old rig.

So that is the long introduction to my story. So the jist of this story is that this last summer, my family had a family picnic in Hood River, OR and this old cousin was able to make it up from LA for the picnic. Thus he got a ride in his old pickup now turned into a Huckster. I asked him if he wanted to drive it but he said he did not want to wreck it. Thus another A story with some history.

Kudos Fred! Great read and a beautiful Huckster. Mine might be that nice some day....when i'm gone and my brother, the cabinet maker gets his hands on it
