Well I am 82 and I remember the Witch Stand and drive in movies. I wonder if there are any places that still have drive in movies and drive ins that have car hops? There was one place in Hollywood that had male car hops. Hollywood is Hollywood.

My first high school job was scooping ice milk for milk shakes in a drive-in restaurant that preceded McDonalds in Oakland, Ca. Paper cup on a scales, ice milk to tip the scales, a splash of milk, two pumps of syrup, and onto the mixer. 24¢, please!
Hamburger 19¢, Fries 11¢, a paper cash register receipt with a red star gets your purchase for free!

During the summer our small city of Glens Falls NY has one Drive-in Movie business and an A & W Root Beer Drive-up (with food menu). There's also a small seasonal hot dog drive-up.
Ironically, Sear-Roebuck here mimics the system .... place a phone order, pull into one of their designated parking places, on your cell phone dial the number on the sign in front of you, and they bring your order out. |

I will be 60 later this year. I sure miss the drive in movies. My parents had a restaurant with carhop service, & yes the carhop girls wore roller skates in the summer. Sure wish I was a few years older at that time with all the older teenage girls workn & hanging out there.

We still have one movie drive-in open, there were at least 5 or 6 in the 1960s. And, Sonic still has car hops!

I like that they actually drove around in convertibles with the top down. I had a '66 convertible Impala and I wish I still owned it. If I ever do another car its going to be a rag top.

There is one successful drive in movie in our area. It is about 30 miles north.
Our model A club goes to a double feature once each summer. Last year a local TV station had an interview with our club. People love drive ins and old cars. John |
