Inline filters from mechanical pump...part numbers and placement?

Currently, I have a Fram clear plastic on there, put on before me and gettin' old and boy, is that thing fussy on where it's placed. Never more than 2/3rds full and if I change it's position it starves.

Whoever installed this cut the steel line and patched in the Fram as you would expect with hose and corbin clamps. Original glass fuel bowl filter is empty...I want to do this right. Do I go back to replacing original element in Ford fuel pump...or? Thoughts? Thank you!

Tell us what you've got, and what you want to achieve. Do you want originality as manufactured, or an effective fuel filter?

As for hose clamps on fuel lines, the only way to prevent air leakage is with a worm drive.

Get rid of it. Use a later pump with the glass bowl. A replaceable paper
filter is available for the glass bowl. G.M.

And with the in bowl filter, I believe the crap ends up inside the filter, rather than outside where you can see it. So even if it looks clean, there could be a bunch of flotsam and jepsom inside.

By later pump do you mean the standard 8BA or double action? I know there are some variants. Has the stock '51 pump (car) installed.

The 1948 type pump is what I was referring to. On early engines you
have to take the 8 or so screws out that hold the top and bottom of the pumps together and move the top to orient the inlet to the proper
position. I don't rebuild the water pumps, Skip Haney does. Skip worked
for me 20 years ago and I let him use my machine shop for the pumps.
He has a shop at home where he does the coils. G.M.

Ok for using the stock filter bowl these filters fit...looks like the napa 3039 (WIX 33039) doesn't need a spring to hold it up. Fram CG3 fits and needs spring, not that that is a big deal.

The 3039/33039 on the left has a large flange that seals with gasket on lip of glass bowl, holding it up from the bottom and I assume seals tightly by itself, I suppose with gasket.The Fram CG3 on the right does not have this flange and needs the spring to hold it flush to top of the filter housing.
