Leakless water pump&6blade fan

OK, HAVING ENG.REDONE WANT TO PUT ON LEAKLESS WATER PUMP AND 6 BLADE FAN. QUESTION: WHERE IS BEST PLACE TO BUY THESE QUALITY ITEMS FRIENDS?

OK Josh, a couple of questions for you. What makes a good leakless water pump in your eyes? Do you want one that us an original housing that has been modified to be leakless, --or do you want a unit that is a brand new housing, new stainless shaft, and all new parts?

Also, why a 6 blade fan? Why not an original style 2 blade repro in aluminum, --or why not a 4-blade steel like has been the mainstay for decades and decades? Or, putting it a different way, if a 2 blade fan can adequately keep a "warmed over" banger motor cool in even the hottest climates, do you lose anything by going with more blades? (i.e.: more noise, more parasitic drag, less airflow at faster speeds, etc.)?? I think you do.

Several years ago we did a comparison of fan performance and you get as much air flow with the original style two blade as with the others. This is in the Spring 2007 Model A Times. As far as the pump I have been running pumps from James Rupert 661-589-5795. He modifys original style pump housings.

As far as I'm concerned the best leakless pump was made by Henry Ford.

I rebuilt my original pump 10 years ago and it's identical to the original build, except I added the locking collar on the front of the shaft. This way one pump will be correct for any Model A, instead of relying on the head for the pump shaft spacing. I installed my pump 6 years ago and it hasn't leaked a drop yet. The secret is to use grease around the lead rings when you install them.

The only change I would make is: on all future rebuilds I'll use the rear brass bushing with the double lip seal. This will help to ensure that the grease won't get into the coolant. Also, I always use 50% antifreeze for freeze protection, water pump lubricant, and rust prevention.

A good copper radiator is the trick to keeping a model "A" cool. I like the looks of the two blade fan. Pooch avatar is cool with the two blade fan. Somebody sells a serpentine belt system with a six bladed plastic fan. I probably will not buy one. I have some old Dodge power wagons. The fans on these trucks move a lot of air. You can not add fluids with the engine idling.

One of the main reasons I wanted to pull the 4 blade fan off of our A was noise.

Sometimes you just need a little less fan.


Since we're on the topic of cooling, How effective is the fan shroud I see a few places selling? I'm also curious about the generator side scoop as I am running our generator pretty hard.

Here's a reason to not use the repro 4-blade steel fans.

Here's a picture of the serpentine system. It's sold by Dennis Cling in CA. The goofy looking uneven spacing of the blades is supposed to breakup harmonic vibrations. Strictly for guys who aren't concerned about judging points!
