In the first post you mentioned play in the shaft, now is the time to correct this.
You probably have wear inside the head letting the shaft move back and forth,get a collar and put on the shaft before you install the fan to correct this. Bob |

Bob, why do you say to use a stainless washer under the castle nut? It didn't come with one and in my experience there is seldom very much room to get the cotter key in, once the nut is on. Just curious?

Nuts against aluminum often call for a steel washer to keep the turning nut from galling the aluminum.
