Maybe there should be an annual Ford Model A Swap meet in say in Kansas City (Middle of lower 48, sorry CarlG) and have only Ford Model A folks who only sell Ford Model A Parts... And make it in June...

We have that in Gilmore now every year and as Tom W says, its growing every year. I expect to have at least 50% more vendors this year that i did last year...Its a great place to get together for a great cause..

Speaking of Swap Meets, Moultrie is growing like crazy, now 3 times a year. I sell there and it is beyond me to figure out what to bring. Example, if I buy a good Model A wheel at say $25 or $35 with good lug holes, I straighten every spoke, sometimes even fill some rust pits, have it powder coated for $65 how much have I got in the wheel? My price $85 per wheel and usually I will put out a set. People won't touch them. What sells is junk and I try not to bring any of that. I have let people know I will be there, they e-mail me would you bring such and such. Why yes I will. They don't show up. For my own needs, I go to Hershey and the national Model A Meets to find what I need but down here I would like to find the quality I bring. So, what is the answer? I will still be at Moultrie trying to figure it out.

EBay has become the shill bidder in the sense that if a seller doesn't get an offer he likes he will respond that he'll just put it on E-bay for X$. At this point I just wish him good luck and move on. Every swap meet seems to have at least one elderly guy that wants to clear out his horde before the heirs are stuck with it and this is where I find the best stuff. Sometimes they are practically giving it away and other vendors swoop in to build up their inventory on the next row over.

But some people like to spend a lot of money to save a little money.

There used to be so many great swap meets back in the 1960's and 1970's, now it is down to Hershey and a few others locally. How many people in your town are doing a restoration of any type? I think that has a big effect on the loss of swap meets. eBay is were the action is, no reloading and unloading, just a simple relist all done with one finger. Bob
