Default Tom (SeaSlugs), Sarah and I.......

Tom was quite impressed that I was in pretty good shape for being 92 and he was even more impressed with all my lady friends and that I drove in with one sitting on my lap too........

Not a big turn out but it was a nice day. Ran into another Barner too but his name escapes me at the moment, over from St Charles and they both bought a Grit!!!!!

You and that Coupe make a pretty impressive pair! Do you still have any of those old copies of the Grit left?

Sarah was the only A there. Had a lot of questions and most of the questions came from....kids!!! I'd say between 8-12. Older people too but mainly kids, both boys and girls.

When did Grit go out of business? I remember when Paul Harvey used to advertise them.

If that's you by your coupe, I might believe 72, but not 92. A guy stopped to talk to me about my Studebaker yesterday, and he said he remembers when they made the 1950. He said he was 74, but he didn't look it either.

BTW, why is your spare tire toed in?

Grit today is nothing as it once was, glossy pub and has joined up with other papers and the circulation is not what it was back in the 30s....and radio is also not what it use to be with Paul Harvey gone. Didn't matter what I was doing, when Paul Harvey came on the radio, I stopped and listened.

Both spares bow in.............until you said something, I didn't know better.

Sorry I didn't make it up this last weekend as hoped. Kept busy doing A work on a couple to get out the door. As the colors turn well have to make the trip up and tour together.
All the best!

I hope I look that good when I get to 92, only 17 years to go.
I've always said that I'm going for 100 and when I get there, I'm going for 200.

I sold the Grit paper door to door as a kid. 15 cents as I remember and I got to keep a nickel from each paper.

Hiya Larry.......seems antique and classic cars shows abound during Oct around here. This one local is just getting off the ground and has a ways to go but, it was an enjoyable day all round. Met a couple of Barners, answered questioned (that I knew ), mostly told war stories!!!!!!!!!!

When I was a kid in Modesto, CA I sold the Modesto Bee on the street for $.05 cents a copy, got to keep $.025 cents per copy; when I got my first paper route it was 68 papers, covered 5th, 4th,and 3rd street, made $7.00 a month and a additional 10 present for collecting from the customers each month, the paper cost the customer $.90 cents a month; there was no paper issued on the weekends.
Usually went to the Strand Theater on Saturday morning, it only cost $.05 cents.
I am only 87, hope to make it to 92.

I forgot about this incident that happened later in the day, on another thread I posted a photo of a Christmas wrapped gift that I used to replace the package that disguised my fire extinguisher. This gal was looking over Sarah, I was sitting in a chair behind Sarah. She looked in on the passenger side and turn back to me and asked if that Christmas gift was for her, I smiled and asked her, if she was HOT!!!! She smiled back with a rather curios look on her face and said, NO!!! I got up went over and revealed the fire extinguisher. We both got a good laugh at that....I was doing just fine until her boyfriend showed up!!!!!!!!

It's not often you see folks mention St. Charles, MO online. Since I spend half my time there, I'm curious;

Is this some regular event close by that I've been missing out on?
