I have a 35 sedan with a 51 Merc engine. Any a/c tips, ideas, experiences you may have would sure be helpful as I plan my installation. Cooling issue concern me most of all but compressor and alternator mounts is also a concern.
Thanks guys. Dick Sparks east TX |

Just got finished installing A/C in my 53 Victoria, works good, puts out 40 degree air. Engine gets on the warm side 190 to 210, it all depends on the speed and ambient temperature. If I drive at 65 to 75 it heats up real fast to 210, run it about 55 to 60 and around town it will be about the same. Temperature at 95 degrees just got finished driving about 12 miles in town ran about 210. When its 85 degrees it will run about 190 degrees. Bad thing a Victoria is a hard top, the windows aren't very tight, I get a lot of wind noise plus a lot of heat pulled in starting around 50 mph, keep under 45 mph works great. I installed the condenser on the front of the radiator used electric fan mounted on the inside, that part is great. Used 100 amp alternator to supply the current, fan and air will pull 40 plus amps plus. I have plenty of power while driving. would I do it again sure. any other questions let me know. John give me your email I will send pictures, very nice installation. I will try to post pictures.

I've been running a Hurricane a/c unit in my 52 F-1 for about six years. I also replaced the stock fan by installing a temp controlled electric cooling fan, 100 amp alternator. Basically same set-up as Johnnydidd. Got my unit from www.oldairproducts.com great after the sale help and they have a bunch of products. I purchased my unit through Hot Rod & Custom Supply (no longer around) who provided my alt. & compressor bracket. I am sure old air has something to meet your needs. Worth checking out anyway.
I love my unit, especially living in Arizona. |
