Default Model B upper bellhousing.

The Model B upper part of the bell housing , I don't believe you use the 2 shims on the 2 upper 7/16 bolts like the Model A. Is that correct? ALSO, the serial no. that is stamped on top of this upper bell, ( AB5051551 ) can anyone tell me the year. I think this is an early B engine because it has the crank with no counter weights. Thanks Walt

Shims are used to keep everything aligned. The shims should be the same thickness as the housing-to-block gasket.

Hey Walt,
I agree with Jim B . If you do NOT use a gasket to cover the rear cam area, MAYBE then you could get alignment better without shim, but I use shims on my two Bs.
