Ordered ne bumpers for the 39 Deluxe. Since I did not remove the previous ones, I really do not know the correct positioning for the new ones. Does anyone have pictures of the placement of the each type?
Thanks in advance, Wick |

The bumpers are fairly self-explanatory located. Use a little lubrication on the part that goes through the sheet metal. While pushing a little, do some pulling simultaneously from the inside of the hood. The bumpers with two "nipples"... be careful to match the curve of the rubber to the fender. It is possible to put these two on backward. Do not be surprised if you find it necessary to trim these to make your hood fit nicely.

Kube,
You are a fountain of all that is good. Do the bumpers with 2 "nipples" go on the cowl? Thank you |

Yeah, that probably makes no sense. You will find two bumpers in the kit that are rather "tall". Those go on the grille cross brace, photo attached. If you look closely at the wagon, you will note only one bumper had been installed at that time. I place one in one each side of the hood, opposite of each other and then trim that bumper(s) as may be necessary to get a great fitment on the hood. I do one pair at a time so I know if one or the other (side) is causing a fitment issue.

Wick: Here's the hood bumpers on my 40. Catalog is a 40+ year old DRAKE catalog. I had to trim the two taller (center) rubber bumpers on the front hood cross brace with a brand new safety razor blade so hood would snug down properly when latched. Trim them after they have been installed.
Also, I had to use a grommet with a lower profile head on the pass. side cowl (last photo) because the hood would sometimes "catch" on the edge of the stock grommet causing it to pull out and fly away to be forever lost. This won't happen if you keep a dab of grease on the head of that grommet. Hope this helps. Last edited by 19Fordy; 05-29-2025 at 10:52 AM. |

I do not have a place for the 2 "nipple" bumpers. There is only 1 hole on each side. Maybe just drill another hole on each side.

Perhaps some 1939 models did not use the "double nipple rubber bumpers" due to a design change. Try using the single dimple and if they and the hood fit fine, let it be.
