Can anyone post pictures of the oil splash pan of the model A and the B. The B inter splash pan is suppose to sit lower in the oil pan . I would to like to see pictures of the side of both to tell the difference. Thanks, steve

My Model A engines show the "bulge" that holds the pan 3" below the top of the flange.
My Gordon-Smith Model B engine shows the bulge also at 3" Not to say that the tray pressing (inside) might not be pressed to make the tray "shallower" or "deeper" when installed. Or even a difference in the tray "dips" themselves. The Model B oil pan had welded "extension" which mated with the lower flywheel housing. A bit different than the Model A. Many in converting a Model B engine for Model A use will "cut off" this extension, usually leaving evidence of the modification before painting. I'm not seeing this on the GS Air compressor. It may well be a Model A pan, which would be consistent with typical GS production from "parts." This Model B pan (Ebay) seems to have seen better days. Joe K

The bulge on the Model A dipper tray flange was raised to allow the tray to sit slightly lower in the pan. The pan was not changed. If you look at the edge of the original design dipper tray the bulge is centered on the edge flange, the bulge is moved up near the top edge of the flange for the lowered tray. There was also a shield added to cover the oil pump with the new tray.

![]() Quote:
Ford Service Bulletins page 576 for both oil pump shield AND the change at the dipper tray pressing. Dipper tray lowered 1/8" thereby. Late in the Model A designation - and would have been applied to Model B. Joe K

The reason guys cut the back off the B pan to use it in an A was because the rear main bearing cap has a larger radius than the A.The A pan won't fit over the B rear main cap.
