Pressure plate adjutant
Hello. I’m having a hard time understanding where the 5/8 or 11/16 measurement comes from. Is my pressure plate way out of adjustment? It’s a fresh rebuild

But don't you have to make another adjustment when the flywheel is on? Or is my brain out of adjustment. |

Yes, Brain is Ok!, Check the fingers for correct depth, Readjust the fingers to 5/8" below the top of the pressure plate.

Bolted to the flywheel with the friction disc installed. In other words, in the "run" configuration.

The most important thing is that they all be the same. I think the specification is within 0.002 inch of each other.

So, why would Paul make all of the adjustment he did on the bench? Wouldn't it save time by just doing the adjustment one time when it is up with the flywheel?

Bratton's has a inexpensive little tool that helps in the adjustment of the pressure plate 'fingers'

I don't re-adjust after installation. Someone else said they do that. If you adjust the fingers after installing, your flywheel had better be absolutely perfect. Otherwise, don't readjust. That's asking for clutch chatter.

So if you adjust on the bench, with the fingers just touching/below the cover, when you bolt it to the flywheel you get the required 5/8"?

PS, I really have to say you clean up well, I didn't recognize you at first.
In my latest issue of The Restorer magazine in the tech section there was a picture of a good lookin guy with a suit on, and his hair all fixed up and no grease on his face. So, its not only cars that you can restore! |
