After dealing with some Transmission issues and such.. I pulled the first FE out of my Number 2 57 custom 300.... Hopefully I can fire this weekend.
Hopefully there will be Joy in Mudville. |

Thanks All.... All is ready and plumbed for a test fire today..I will post on success or failure.
A bit of a back story... I originally had a 1960 300hp T-Bird 352 placed in and it fired successfully.. but Had some clutch/trans issues.... I thought initially it was a rear man seal problem... anyhow.. pulled it.. and this x-perimental FE kept staring at me....so...... Here we are..... Hopefully,... I can get it running, then do the exhaust and install the glass... then have a summer runner. I've owned this Texan based 300 for over 15 years and finally got to her.... she ain't pretty.. she just looks that way. |

My Dad bought a new 57 the same color only a 4 door. He drove that car 250,000 + miles all over the USA and Mexico and Canada. Can't be sure but i remember at least 3 rebuilds. Finally drove it to the junkyard. always had a soft spot for 57s, and that one looks great.

You know, they ask why ...
When I was young ... ![]() I would have died to have had a 68 FAIRLANE 428CJ. But it just was not within reach. Maybe buy a 390CI C6 for insurance reasons (don't even think 4/S) and then jack it up with a 428 ($$$) 4/S retrofit ... So what most had to do was install an FE in an older chassis, and 56 and 57 provided that. Nothing wrong with a 352. The early 1958 352CI had solids and put out the HP. Then FORD got out of racing and the late 58 352CI went to a hydraulic valve-train and lower compression. Damn thing would not get out of it's own way. Plus FORD did not want to put a solid lifter engine in a 58 BIRD. FORD came back in 1960 with the 352CI 360HP for the street. That got her done. Perfect retrofit. I think that is where Jeff is going, bringing back a period HP car.
