working on 29 coupe.
Removed engine and transmission to swap out engine. installed same and have a problem. rear motor mounts (Float-A-Motor) line up with attachment to engine. The radius ball is about one half ball aft of the socket in the engine.
dloes anyone have any ideas what might cause this. i appreciate anysuggestions. Thanks

That will need the use of a cutting torch and some creative welding!

Apply the hand brake then jack up the front end where the front tires are barely off the ground, then place Jack stands under the frame on both sides near the front. By having the front spring, axle and wheels hanging you can then pull from the front to get the ball into the socket. Once lined up it may then take a floor Jack to raise the ball into the socket.

Loosening the front spring U bolts will help.

It isn’t the engine that needs to move back but rather the front axel needs to come forward. Reminds me of my first engine install after towing a running gear and cab several miles home. Had to “stretch it out” with a tractor gently pulling on each end.

When I rebuilt my front end, I assemble everything with slightly more than finger tight, then once everything is attached, I then start tightening everything up. Starting at one end and tightening everything as I go along, never seemed to work out that well for me.

It’s not all that uncommon for a ball to be off a little. Crossmembers, springs, etc an have a affect. I use a model T jack at the back right in front of the ball to get the ball and socket in place. Unless it is way off it usually slips into place, even if significantly off.
Put you cap in place, use grease on the ball and socket and try it.
The T style jack works great.

I used my porta-power jack and pushed the axle out from the motor mount on passenger side!
