Oil Pan removal??? 59A issues
I have a 1940 59a engine in my 34 pickup. The engine has 4000-6000 miles since the rebuild. This past summer I began to notice alot of blowby and then major oil leakage from the rear seal area. I found the no 7 cylinder to only have a compression of 30 pounds. A leakdown test showed air exiting the lower end into the pan.
The top end of the cylinder looks perfect so I am hoping to find something simple on the bottom end. Upon removal of the pan I have all the bolts loose but it still wont pull out. Seems to be something near the starter hole holding it. The pan moves but will not release out of there. Will I have to remove the Clutch cover to remove the pan?? Thanks Rick Heres some pics in case I have the year incorrect... Last edited by OhioRick; 01-09-2011 at 12:10 PM. |

you need to remove the clutch cover, (the small red cover under the flywheel)

Re: Oil Pan removal??? 59A issues
Most flathead oil pans go all the way back and bolt to and bolt onto the transmission.

My "99" has a bolt back by the starter that goes into the pan (through block) from the top. Reckon the 59A does to. Did you take that one out?

Found the one bolt hiding back there. I figured there was a lip hiding around that clutch cover somewhere. Thanks for the help. |
