Default Sooted plugs on 39 Pickup

Got 39 Ford Pickup. ( 85HP) Belongs to my 90 year old Dad. It has had to sit as lot the last year. Prior to that it ran like a champ. Changed plugs recently. Only driven about 30 miles. Drove it Sat with Dad at my side. He was all smiles but it began to buck and jump. Got it back home, took out the plugs and they are all black with soot. Had to pour a little gas into carb to get it started ( I forgot that part). Any ideas on why they got sooted so quick. Carb has been rebuilt prior to car sitting for almost a year. He broke his hip is why it sat so long.

A few possibilities:
Maybe the fuel filter if fitted is blocked, hence need to pour some gas into carb.
The fuel has gone off during the period it has sat in the tank?
The carb has been operating with choke open partially?
Perhaps to clean up plugs, some fresh gas and check filter and carb choke.
All the best.

Couple more to add to these fine gentlemens suggestions.

If its been sitting for a bit and if it bucks underload and not at idle. It might be as simple as some stuck valves. I've done the MMO treatment, which is pour some MMO (marvel mystery oil) at idle down the carb till it smokes out then run the heck out of it for 10-15 miles (of course, take dad). Little in the gas for later.

Could be a condenser or filter if it has one also, but give it a try.

Not to get into a plug debate but I like autolites. certain champions are better then others, NGK are a good plug.

blown power valve, leaking fuel into engine causing it to run rich

Several suggestions here. Start with the easiest, clean plugs, MMO treatment then go from there. Good idea to do on an engine that has sat for awhile anyway.
Consult with dad. This is a special time for both of you. Enjoy it. Chap

Thanks for the replies. I will get started with the suggestions. You fordbarners are great and I do really appreciate all of you taking the time to offer suggestions. I do cherish the times with my Dad and to see the smile on his wrinkled face when we are in the truck/car together is a reward that can not be measured. Somehow I think that smile replaces all of his aches and pains as he gets older. If I do not get some results I will be back asking more questions. Have a blessed day to each of you.
