I use 3 in 1, or sewing machine oil.

I’ve been told 3 in 1 oil will gum up a sewing machine, sewing machine oil only!

How do you use vaseline inside the wiper?

Curtis, you need to take the motor body apart, clean all the old grease and gunk out and off of everything, then wipe a good film of vaseline on the paddles as well as both sides of the lower half where the paddles contact the body as they rotate back and forth.

I use ATF for my sewing machines, and I'd use the same for my wiper motors.

Cleaned everything. I did not replace the paddle seal as it is still in good condition. I thought about ATF, Brake fluid etc. but decided not to go with those because of settling. I used white lithium sparingly and the motor works great. I have to keep in mind what certain lubricants will do in cold weather.

Couldn't find the Vaseline? I guess the stuff you used will be ok.

I don't think Vaseline would work well in cold weather.

White lithium will separate and dry out. I quit using it 20 years ago when I discovered this, and have used Mystik JT-6 High Temp red grease since that time. ATF will still be my lube for all my Studebaker vacuum wipers, as it will stay thin in cold weather.
Cold weather is never a problem though, because then road salt keeps all my good cars put away for 6 months. |
