Default starter bendix cover

The starter drive on my 33 V8 is showing. What covers the bendix? Is it something that looks like a can 3 or 4 inches long? If so, how do get it in place without damaging it?

Yes that is what it looks like. It is a non removable part of the pan so If you find a replacement you will probably have to weld it on. Not sure if you can insert it from the starter side and push it in or not.
