I have a typical metal tool cabinet, like a craftsman, with the pull-out drawers.
Every so often I need to WD-40 the sliders because the drawers feel gummy and hard to pull out all the way. After WD-40'ing they pull out fine, but it doesn't last.

What would be a better spray lubricant that I won't have to reapply in 6 months?

WD-40 dries up after a while. Not much of a long term lube. I use this synth spray oil with teflon on my 30 year old Snap-on chest slides. About once a year. Also keeps the 'ol Browning happy.

I used to remove the slides and grease them on my Craftsman tool cabinets. They would slide smoothly and easily. I worked at the dealership, so they got quite a workout.

Nope, didn't know about it at the time, so that was still the Lubriplate phase of my life.

Every Friday I would wipe down most of my tools with a lightly oiled rag. I tried to keep my tools in good condition. Too bad Craftsman went to China.

I use light oil on the old boxes that have sliders. WD40 is not really a lubricant. It is meant as a water displacer (wd). The newer boxes have ball bearings, and I have not yet needed to lube them.

Spray powderd graphite is fantastic stuff for that type of application, and it doesn't get your tool kit all greased up (also works great on throttle cables, door latches, and the like)

Powdered teflon lock lube works pretty good on my tool box.

All the lubricants listed will work fine for your chest. As for the WD-40 it is not a lubricant and has no place in the work shop. Don't use it!

The one with the picture in it belonged to my great grandmother. It needed parts so I got some non working movements on Ebay for $5.00 and used the parts to get it running. I had enough parts left over to put together a second working watch.

With my luck each and every non working watch would have the same worn out part.

My wife brought home a new spray for me to try It is Blaster All Purpose Lubricant. I just used it on my garage door rollers and hinges. Went to tool box and did drawer slides and rollers. Stay tuned for a run down on how it works. I will do my Model A tomorrow. Could not spend to much time out side, family dinner got to give the family my presents of being. Don haveing fun with the grand kids.

The typical bad parts are balance staff, balance jewels, and mainsprings.
Sometimes you get lucky and find a movement with a good staff and jewels.
Movements are frequently available on eBay because of guys scrapping the cases for the gold content :-(
