Default coil experiment

this may be of interest
coil 2.0 int resis 12v used on texas t distr.

coil to distr removed from distr and held at increasing dist. frm ground-no rotor to go thru

set up1 .6 ext resist jump 5/16"
2.75 v drop across ext resis 8.0v across coil primary winding
don't know where missing v1.2 v went
4amps used,10.25 watts across resis

set up2 1.3 ext resist jump 1/4"
6.3 v drop across ext resis ?5.7 across coil primary wndg
3.6 amp 17 watt
-----------------
coil wire plugged into distr top, plug removed with wire from distr attached - the spark had to go thru rotor to get to plug
set up 3 1.3 ohm
plug fired intermittantly
setup 4 .6 ohm plug fired consistant
------
in none of the above did coil get hot to touch

Adding the 1.6 volt external resistor ought to improve the life expectancy of the coil a lot. The way they are out of the box they burn out quickly.

thank u-i've learned alot from you and bubba- on your and bubba's coil, can you feel any heat on coil with your hand? i can feel a slight warmth when i drop the voltasge to the coil with external resis. the largest size of the ext resis was chosen which would still give me a visible spark with the plug pulled and put on ther engine block.
