This may be a stupid question, but here goes. One of the brake shoes have a shorter pad than the other. Does the shorter pad go to the front or back. I have seen picture of both ways.

The shorter lining goes to the rear on the '39-'48 Lockheed non-servo brakes. The longer lining and larger wheel cylinder piston goes to the front.
