Default How many cars in Fine Point Judging in Canada

Has anyone heard how many cars are in fine point judging at the Canadian meet? What kind of cars were they??? I could not go this year. I am still consumed by the Bugatti body build.

Eight, six are restorations, two original. Fine point judging is going on now. No pictures yet.

Actually there are 9 cars in Fine Point judging at Niagara Falls - 7 restored and 2 original. Original cars were a 1928 Canadian Phaeton owned by Everett Hessel and my wife's 1930 US Town Sedan.

Oldest car was a November 1927 Phaeton (beautiful car) plus 2 - 1928, 1 - 1929, 2 - 1930, 3 - 1931

Even though I was judging them I can't remember the models - I know there were 2 - Phaeton (1 original), 1 - 1930 Original Town Sedan, 1 - Fordor, 1 - 1931 Special Delivery, 1 - 1931 Roadster, 1 - Sport Coupe and can not recall the other 4 cars at the moment.

I will get them at the Grand Tour tomorrow

Will,

We all missed you today judging the fine point cars. In addition to the cars mentioned there was a beautiful business coupe from your neck of the woods.

We will not know how Everett or any of the other 8 fine point cars made out until the Awards Banquet Friday night.

Hey Hunter, I sure wish I could have joined you all this time. The '29 Business Coupe belongs to Rick Nance. He's there trying to get his second Henry. Best of luck to all that put all the time and effort into getting their fine point cars ready and showing up.

That 27 phaeton was at the last MAFCA national. Fun to see it.

Was the 27 phaeton Dean Drenzek's car? I thought he won a Henry award last year. If it is his car, I am surprised he entered it again. His car is the only 27 phaeton I know of. I saw it last year at French Lick - very nice car.

Rusty, Dean returned with A495 and put it into judging to receive his Master Restoration. He did receive his Henry last year in French Lick but is not eligible for another Henry once he already received it.

Gary,
Thanks for the update about Dean's car. It sounds like there weren't nearly as many fine point cars at the meet this year as in past years. I wonder how the swap meet (number of participants) went this year?

Hi Gary!

Sure missed you being here at the meet. Hope to see you at the next one if not before. Thanks for clarifying why Dean entered his car again after winning the Henry. I was wondering the same thing as Rusty.

7) May 1931 Special Delivery 255A

The swap meet was very small. I believe that's because of the problem crossing the border with parts to sell. Customs and all that. Bratton's had a display there with some of their newer offerings but could not sell anything. I'm thinking there might have been 5 vendors. The two largest were Canadians selling parts. One of which was donations from the Canadian club members for the club treasury. Brattons display and a man named Bob selling radiator additives. The other I don't recall.

Two guys selling used parts, Brattons, a guy selling what looked liked cleaners, a wood guy and Antique Engine Rebuilders from IL.

Regardless of how the meet is 'graded' by those that did not put forth any effort to present or assist in presenting the meet, it should be remembered that hosting a meet is a HUGE amount of work. I was involved in working with these terrific hosts several years ago, as they were in the initial planning stages. I can vouch for the fact that they have been working VERY diligently to present this meet for a number of years.

It should be remembered that when asking for host of National Meets, there are few takers as folks seem to be developing the 'entitlement' approach to life. 'Let someone else do the work, and we can cruise in at the last minute with little or no effort and reap the benefits'.

The reason there might be a perception of low attendance is NOT the fault of the hosts, but of those of you that could not find the time or (fill in your own excuse here) to support those in your own Model A community that DID take the time on YOUR behalf to make this opportunity available for all.

From my perspective, those of you that did not make the trip or the effort to attend, you are showing a HUGE amount of disrespect for those that did, by nit-picking from afar. Monday morning quarterbacks are paid exactly what they are worth.

If you do not like something about a/some/all National or Membership meets are being held, have the balls to step up yourself and get involved. The same is true about the fine point cars. A number of folks are taking a less sincere effort in this regard is because of the constant harassment, belittling and scoffing by those that do not have the talent to build one of their own.

Regarding both hosting a meet and building a 'points' car, they both are akin to climbing a tall ladder. It gets harder to climb the farther up you go, but the view from the top is spectacular. But, rather than encourage and support those that are willing to climb, it seems to be more popular to shake the ladder by those that are afraid of heights, or lack the testicular capacity to even get on the ladder.

I know this appears as a rant, but it gets increasing difficult to sit by and watch those that do put forth effort, bitch about those that DO put forth the effort. I have been involved in working a national meet and dabbled in the fine point arena. Other participants scored both higher and lower than I, but they all became lifelong friends because of mutual respect. I am proud that those folks allowed me to park my 'stuff' next to theirs.

The hosts of the 'Canadian' meet deserve your admiration and respect, not derision and disappointment.

There may have been only nine entrants in the fine point judging, but that meant on that day, when the door closed to begin judging, they were one of only nine people in the WORLD that were able to accomplish the completion of such a difficult undertaking. What were you doing that day?

I know this appears as a rant,...

What were you doing that day?

Will, first-off this IS a continual rant that you get on! Second, no one that I know of was complaining about the meet hosts. My stated observation (which was deleted by moderators) was that what I feared would happen regarding the two why reasons I attend a national meet DID indeed happen ....which was contrary to the constant BS that was being 'shoveled' by someone who was not a Meet Host, ...nor was this person knowledgable about the info he was spreading. As I stated in the post that was deleted, the two reasons I attend a National meet is for Fine-point Judging and for the Swap Meet. All I heard by this person was it is no problem to bring in parts to sell or to bring in someone else's vehicle. Since I have been led astray several times by this person's advice in the past, I chose to find out the facts on my own.

As it turned out, citizens of the U.S. bringing in parts for sale required a bunch of paperwork & prepaying of taxes. Also bringing in an automobile that is not titled in your name is a headache too. Therefore this meet was not for me HOWEVER I stated in that post that the Meet appeared to be a success for the Hosts and their attendees. I don't think my comments can in anyway be construed as bashing or disrespecting the Meet hosts!

Oh, and you asked where were we on that day? Maybe some would question why YOU weren't there either. Yeah, the direction this thread turned has me riled up a tad.
