Testing a Starter Field Coil
Tom Wesenberg posted a tip once that to test the Field Coil in a Generator, you connected the leads from a battery charger to the wires of the coil, and if it read a 4 amp or less draw, the Field Coil was good. Does anyone know if this same test can be used to test the Field Coil in a Starter Motor? Tom, are you out there
Thanks |

The Delco starter/generator on my Cub Cadet had worn insulation on the field windings, and once in a while it would short to the case. I removed the windings and wraped them with friction tape about 7 years ago, and it's still working fine. |
