Adjusting a 39 steering box
I just completed assembling and I believe adjusting the steering box on my 39 coupe. Anyone have tips or insight on how to do it right would be appreciated.

Re: Adjusting a 39 steering box
First, center your pitman arm. Remove the cap and star locking washer from the roller adjustment. Tighten the adjusting screw until slack/freeplay is removed when you turn the wheel. Replace the star locking washer and cap and you are done. If all the slack can not be removed then there is excess wear in your components.

Re: Adjusting a 39 steering box
I do not have the box in the car. Can I do the same thing by just centering the range of travel (in the middle, equal turns each way)?

Yes, as long as the roller is centered in the worm gear you are good to go.
