His car appears to have left hand drive. I wonder how many Model A's in the UK have such a steering position and what is the experience of driving such a vehicle in the UK? Having driven on Irish roads, even the appropriate right hand drive was terrifying enough for me.

Re: TV’s Car SOS feature a Model A Ford at O'Neill Vintage Ford
A lot of the UK Model T & A's seem to be LHD as demand has resulted in imports over the years. A lot of cars on ebay end up exported out of USA.
Actually, the Model A was a complete sales disaster in Britain except for truck sales. Most production was sent to Europe. Perhaps our UK friends would know how many RHD A's exist there? Driving a LHD on the older narrow B roads of Britain would not be difficult. For a few years in the mid Twenties, Model T's were only available there LHD . Cheers - Tom |

Henry is credited (falsely) with inventing the assembly line but there is another thing he did when he introduced the Model T. Up till then, all American cars were RHD and it wasn't until well into the 20s that the last RHD car was made there, I'm told.

Mostly Tudors & Coupes, both either unavailable or very rare when the cars were new in Aust. Also NZ & Sth Africa with the Canadian made bodies has been a source over the years. Cheers. Tom. |

LHD cars were not able to be registered here until recent years. There was quite an industry doing RHD conversions, good and bad. In the end the state govt.s gave up and admitted that a LHD car was safer than a dodgy conversion. |

Re: TV’s Car SOS feature a Model A Ford at O'Neill Vintage Ford
Me and my Dad have 6 Model A's roadworthy here in the UK, 3 lhd and 3 rhd. Jumping between the two now second nature. Driving rural Suffolk roads a pleasure whichever side you are sitting - no visibility problems. Only thing that causes visiting American friends any disquiet is the central throttle position on rhd cars, which they soon get over.
Rhd parts getting harder to find and at a premium. We buy all we can get. The hotrod boys prefer lhd for the 'look' and used to be a source for bits but most now buy lhd imports from the States as Manchester built cars become more sought after by restorers. Rhd South American parts generally beyond saving. |

Re: TV’s Car SOS feature a Model A Ford at O'Neill Vintage Ford
Back in the 80s, I was in the UK and was tooling along in Surrey when I came across the sight of sights. It was a huge white Cadillac convertible with the proverbial blonde at the wheel. This was on an A road. Yes, the Cad was LH. Who she was or where she came from or where she was going was anyone's guess. It was quite a sight the way that monster overwhelmed the road.
