3049 Remflex exhaust manifold gasket set
Had them on the truck for about a year and a half. One of them was leaking and despite being torqued like all the others, it has pretty much completely failed. Sent an email to them but nothing. Crickets basically.
I’ll have to give them a call, but come on….. really? It’s not like I’m trying to communicate via text message. Not too pleased to say the least. |

Re: 3049 Remflex exhaust manifold gasket set
Do you think installing two gaskets (instead of one) at each exhaust port would help?

I doubt it’s that far off in thickness. Got the new ones stuck on their with high temp gasket sealant though…..

I’ve been selling Remflex gaskets since they were first introduced. You do not want to use gasket sealant with them and don’t over torque them. Remflex gaskets the gasket is designed to go on dry

Perfectly torqued initially. Leaked like a sieve. Didn't leak with that same cast iron manifold before the engine was rebuilt. I'll take my chances with the sealant on both sides of the gasket on that port. |

Do you have stock exhaust manifolds? If not, it could be that the exhaust flange faces are not in the same plane. Lay the header on a flat surface and make sure they're all in contact. File, grind or double up a gasket to compensate. I like FelPro gaskets.

from the manifolds to the back right now because the new mufflers I had weren't pleasing me and the tubing & routing was pretty unprofessional. Manifolds are ceramic thermal coated in black and since they weren't leaking when I got the truck I'm thinking they shouldn't be now. I have the one offending port set up with a new gasket and a liberally thick coat of high temp silicone. We'll see how that goes. I generally don't use silicone on exhaust ports as it's not a good practice. I'm still mainly bothered by Remflex's lack of return contact..... |

Check your flange that is welded to the 90 deg.ell for flatness and install more hangers. JMHO

Re: 3049 Remflex exhaust manifold gasket set
In my 55+ years of working on autos it is very rare gaskets fail without help. eg. loose bolts. Uneven surfaces. Mismatched surfaces. Lack of surface area. Excessive exhaust system movement to list a few.
Did gasket leak between manifold and block or manifold and exhaust. If block to manifold after cleaning both apply a very thin coat of grease to manifold and then bolt to block without gasket torque as normal and then remove. Now look at block mating surface to see grease mark contact area. This could show a potential issue. If it’s manifold to exhaust you can pretty much take it to th bank it’s not the gasket. I n the world we live in today I’m not surprised the company has not responded. The profit on the gaskets i feel couldn’t support such service unfortunately. And what can they tell you without seeing your vehicle to gather all the facts. Good luck. |

my experience with remflex NOT getting back to me. That's pretty much the situation. Not a debate about whether I know what I'm doing after 42 years of wrenching or my 27 years in the automotive aftermarket dealing with customer service issues such as this one. I didn't operate that way and don't expect companies to operate that way..... |
