Re: 54 mercury electric fuel pump question
Where are you placing the pump? AMP of the pump?
See if this helps - https://www.wirebarn.com/Wire-Calculator-_ep_41.html Did you get my last PM? Last edited by KULTULZ; 03-28-2024 at 06:35 PM. Reason: CRS |

Re: 54 mercury electric fuel pump question
Yes. I got your last PM. I read everything.
I can NOT find any amp rating on the pump. Its the one you recommended-an AUTOKAY 6 volt pump. It is being mounted on the frame just in front of the left rear wheel, as far back as I can get. I have a bypass built around it just in case. I was an electrician most of my life. I understand voltage drop and amperage. I was just asking what you or anyone used to wire a pump up. 16 or 14 gauge stranded??

Re: 54 mercury electric fuel pump question
Ha, another retired electrical guy. Like me. You’ll probably be good with 16, but I’d use 14 just to be safe. I had an electric pump (in a very off topic installation) that was a Bosch. Said it would support up to 930hp in a turbo 911. I used #10 for that one.
I’ve got in tank GM pumps on 2 yblocks. One supercharged, one a throttle body EFI. 40# or so. They’re both on #12. So 14 should be safe. |

Re: 54 mercury electric fuel pump question
That name comes up in this thread, and a link to Amazon. Based on the picture that looks like pretty light gauge wire. I’d go up 1 size for the feed and fuse accordingly. But it’s not one of Kultulz’s post.

Re: 54 mercury electric fuel pump question
My mistake. Sorry for the confusion. I found the thread. Go to search and type in adding a electric fuel pump . Merc Cruiser made the recommendation..
