Sticky horn button
Does anyone know of a way of fixing a "sticky horn button" on a '30 coupe without taking the whole column out?

Try some cleaner that evaporates like alcohol. Disconnect the battery first. What I found was some may be royally gunked up. To get the ring out of one I had to heat it up some. Must of had a bunch of sugary drink spilled on it. The contact was coated. I also think that you might need to take the rod out and soak it in solvents. You might also use a blow dryer or hotter and see if that helps let it move. But you may have another problem. Since the spring is part of the circuit half the buttons I took apart had a spring that was very weak. I think too much current was run through them heating the spring causing it to loose its temper. This could happen if the horn was shorted when you try to blow it. So your real problem may be a bad spring. Anyway. Take a closer look at what you have. You have what I know for whatever that is worth. |
