I am restoring a 34 panel truck and have a question? was the wood in the rear compartment painted or left natural?

I am not an expert but this is a 33 sedan delivery below and the wood I have seen on others appears to have a very heavy black stain. You may want to contact Don Rogers or Richard Lacy.

Not sure on the panels but I have seen sedan deliveries with a flat back (either paint or soaked in stain over the years) our 35 Sedan Delivery was more greyish black. Not sure which is or isn't correct but will follow this thread intently.

The cargo area of my 1935 panel delivery was painted with a color called commercial drab. It is some where between a grey green and olive drab. I used a Model A commercial drab. Everything in the cargo area got painted from the header panel back to the rear doors. Here are some photos of my 35 panel delivery.

My 32 Panel Delivery is painted black on the inside. But, I don't know if it was done from the factory or later in life.

well after pondering on this a bit it looks to me that all wood was painted or stained drab. so it looks like that's what i'am going to do. the metal has already boon painted Tacoma cream which is the outside color and is going to stay that color. thanks for all your input. bobgc

My '47 panel shows quite a bit of a dull black stain. In some lighting it could be a very dark green. Maybe mix 3/4 flat black with 1/4 hunter green, which is a dark green. Both rustoleum. Just a thought. Can we see a picture of this vehicle?

Commercial drab is also original for '32 standard panel deliveries. Very little of the wood shows in either a '32 sedan delivery or deluxe panel delivery as the sides were covered in textured cardboard and they had pyroxylin (artificial leather) headlinings.
Beneath, the wood was stained with a black preservative. |
