Metal tube that carries the wiring loom to the Cut Out.
If I understand correctly, on the '28's and '29's they had a Metal Tube that carried the wire loom to the Generator Cut Out.
I have a '28 but I'm missing this Metal Tube. Is there any chance someone has the dimensions of it so I can fabricate one for my Truck? It looks fairly simple but; How long?, Outside Diameter of Tubing?, What size Radius and it's location? It seems like 1/2" Conduit might be close. Of course an restorable original or if someone could trace theirs onto paper would be Great! Thanks. |

Re: Metal tube that carries the wiring loom to the Cut Out.
I would just buy the tube with wire from one of the Model A parts dealers. 1/2" conduit is too large.
I don't have any specs, but am looking for a good original tube myself. |

Refer to the MAFCA "Model A Restoration Guidelines", they will tell you all you need to know about your question.

Re: Metal tube that carries the wiring loom to the Cut Out.
Check reply #3 for a picture of my original conduit. The previous owner didn't have the tubing clamped tight to the water inlet, so it wore a hole in the bottom side from vibration. That's why I'd like to find a good original tube.

Re: Metal tube that carries the wiring loom to the Cut Out.
Like so many reproduction parts, a one-time run is made and then there are none ! For those of us who have been in the hobby for a number of years, we have seen a great number of reproduction parts that were made for a time, and then no longer made. However, my SACRAMENTO VINTAGE FORD catalog # 24-A, has one on page 274 - IF they still have it.
A recent post on the accessory oil filler pipe 'exhaust tube' provides another example of this. I have both an original "Fulton - FuMaze" and the later reproduction. The later reproduction has not been made for a number of years now. There are LOTS of other examples of repro. parts that are no longer being made. When you see something you like - BUY IT ! Other threads talk about 'hoarding'. But this will help you understand why some of us 'collect' things that may not have an immediate use. - Doug Vieyra Last edited by DougVieyra; 12-19-2014 at 02:17 AM. |

Re: Metal tube that carries the wiring loom to the Cut Out.
Unless its a points show car, I would avoid the metal tube. The metal tube is a fire hazard and that is probably why it was discontinued . If the metal conduit shorts out against the terminal in the terminal box it will cause most of the wiring to burn. It happened once for me and I have known others that had the same experience

I've never seen one repro-ed. I don't mind a repro.

Re: Metal tube that carries the wiring loom to the Cut Out.
Thanks for the link. I see enough photos of it to make one. Looks like 3/8 diameter tubing should work. I like how Ford had it flared into the Terminal Box.

Re: Metal tube that carries the wiring loom to the Cut Out.
Here's mine from my '29 sport coupe. It's original.
Outside diameter is 1/2" thin wall tubing. Total length aprox. 24". Flared at both ends. Oval exit hole in first picture has an extra piece of metal added so it doesn't cut the wire.

Re: Metal tube that carries the wiring loom to the Cut Out.
I have two. The original on my '28 Phaeton has a seam. The reproduction on my self, does not.
The original tubing had a seam; the reproductions did not. |
